A search and rescue team at the Pesanggrahan river in Cirendeu, Tangerang, has deployed some 200 workers in an effort to find bodies of those still missing following the Situ Gintung disaster last week.

The team suspects some victims had been carried downstream by the flash flood caused by the collapse of the Situ Gintung dam wall, which killed at least 100 people and destroyed hundreds of houses in the area.

"We will search the river banks where there is still lots of garbage and debris from the disaster," search chief Totok Harsono said, as quoted by Antara on Thursday.

The search effort is being supervised by the National Search and Rescue Agency, with support from Jakarta Police's Mobile Brigade.

The team plans to use heavy machinery to remove debris, and two boats to comb the river, Totok said.

It will focus its search through a pile of debris near a bridge at Jl. H Saikin and the Foreign Ministry housing complex. (dre)
