JAKARTA: State railway company PT Kereta Api (KA) plans to refurbish the Joko Kendil, a train built in 1938, to be used for hire purposes, an official said on Wednesday.
"People can rent it to travel to other cities," PT KA spokesman Akhmad Sujadi said as quoted by tempointeraktif.com. The company has already proposed a rental fee of Rp 60 million (US$5,000) for the train for the Jakarta-Surabaya route.
Akhmad, however, did not detail the exact date for the launch.
The tourist train will be equipped with areas for meetings and karaoke, complete with LCD screens and sofas.
The train was named after Joko Kendil, a Javanese legend of a boy whose body looked like a casserole pot. - JP
