YOGYAKARTA: All ad hoc election committees at district and subdistrict levels in the city have yet to receive payments for February and March because of the General Elections Commission's (KPU) ongoing project planning revisions.
At the subdistrict level, an ad hoc electoral committee chairperson should be paid Rp 225,000 per month and its members should receive Rp 200,000 per person per month. At the district level, ad hoc election committee members should be paid Rp 350,000 per person per month while the chairperson should receive Rp 450,000 per month.
Hadi Widodo, a member of the ad hoc electoral committee in Jetis District, said on Wednesday that the suspended payments have forced the ad hoc election committee workers to use their own money to cover operational costs.
He said he had voluntarily worked for the local polling body in the hopes of ensuring that the legislative election was a success in the city.
He hoped the KPU paid the volunteers before the balloting day on April 9, 2009.
The secretary of the polling body in the city, Gufron, confirmed that his office had yet to receive funds from the KPU to pay all the volunteers. This was due to continuing revision of the KPU's budget. - JP
