South Tangerang mayor Shaleh said Sunday the mayoralty would be willing to pay the rent of 107 households in Poncol village who had fallen victim to the Situ Gintung dam collapse last Friday.
"The mayor said he will comply in paying the monthly rent fee of 107 households for a whole year. They've begun to move into the allotted houses," volunteer chairman Rahmat Salam said, as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that for residents who were not allocated a house would be able to stay at the Wisma Kertamukti.
"They [survivors] would all be living under a roof and not in tents. Tents are only designated for volunteers," Salam said.
As of Sunday afternoon, 14 households have already moved into Wisma Kertamukti boarding.
The rest, he said, would be allocated to other housings in due time, Salam added.
The 10-meter high Situ Gintung dam had collapsed last Friday morning, inundating at least 250 houses in the area below, killing no less than 90 resident, displacing hundreds of survivors. (amr)
