Moderate quake shakes East Nusa Tenggara

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale jolted East Nusa Tenggara early this morning, according to the Meteorological and Geophysics Agency (BMG).

The BMG said the earthquake's epicenter was located at a depth of 53 kilometers below the sea level, about 98 kilometers northeast of Kupang, the provincial capital of East Nusa Tenggara.

The earthquake had no potential to create a tsunami, state news agency Antara has reported.

On Sunday, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale rocked Sanana waters in Maluku province. The quake occurred at a depth of 15 kilometers below sea level, around 119 kilometers southeast of Sanana, or 186 kilometers northwest of Ambon, Maluku.

Earthquakes also rocked North Sulawesi and West Papua on Saturday but also did not trigger a tsunami.
