A board of judges at Depok District Court in
West Java on Monday sentenced serial killer defendant Very "Ryan"
Idham Henyansyah to death, Antara reported Monday.
Ryan was found guilty of premeditated murder. It was not reported whether the
defendant would appeal the sentence.
Prosecutors had charged the alleged serial killer with murder in the first
degree, and had been seeking the death penalty in the case.
Prosecutors said the accused had committed murders "which were thoroughly
planned".
Investigators had found a weapon allegedly used to kill one victim, Herry
Santoso. The weapon was a 50-centimeter iron bar that was uncovered in a drawer
in Ryan's former apartment in Depok.
Herry was one of Ryan's 11 reported victims, the remains of which were unearthed
in Ryan's backyard in Jombang, East Java, in July 2008. (dre)
