Road subsides in Ciputat: Traffic chock-a-block

A stretch of road that subsided near Pondok Pinang traffic lights in South Jakarta on Tuesday morning has caused severe traffic congestion along Jl. Ciputat Raya, the main access route from Ciputat to the capital.

Commuters were forced to abandon buses and take more nimble ojek (motorcycle taxis) to work, Antara news reports.

Part of the road had subsided following hours of heavy rain on Monday afternoon.

Vehicles were crammed into two lanes of the four-lane street. Police have been deployed to the area to manage the traffic. (dre)
