The National Commission on Transportation Safety (KNKT) has sent an investigator from Jakarta and an engineer from Papua to investigateĀ an incident in which a cargo plane crashed into a hillside in Indonesia's easternmost province early Wednesday.
KNKT spokesman Barata told tempointeraktif.com that the team would arrive in Papua before the end of the day.
An Aviastar cargo plane crashed earlier on Wednesday, killing all six crew members on board, police said.
TheĀ plane was carrying food and building supplies from the provincial capital Jayapura to the nearby district of Wamena, said local police chief Maj. Gen. Bagus Ekodanto.
The bodies of the pilot, co-pilot and four crew members were pulled from the smoldering wreckage, he said.
It was not clear what caused the accident, but a witness told the state news agency Antara that the plane had circled the hill before tumbling from the sky. (dre)
