SEMARANG: Hundreds of patients at hospitals in Semarang did not vote as no special polling stations were available at the hospitals.
Despite their eagerness, more than 80 patients at Elisabeth General Hospital could not vote because unlike in the 2004 elections, the local polling body did not provide special polling stations for patients, hospital spokeswoman Probowatie Tjondronegoro said Thursday.
She added many patients had skipped the elections because of their health condition.
A Democratic Party poll monitor at a polling station near the hospital, Teguh Prasetya, said most patients were left disenfranchised because they did not bring an A5 form to be allowed to vote outside their constituency.
Provincial general elections commission(KPUD) chairwoman Ida Budhiati confirmed the poll body had not provided special polling stations for hospital patients. -JP
