BANDUNG: A mother and her 18-month-old baby were killed Wednesday after being trapped in their burning house in Babakan Ciparay, Bandung.
The fire started at about 11 a.m. on the second floor of a wooden house where Neneng, 32, and her family lived, said neighbor Agus Setiawan, 22, who helped douse the fire.
It was believed Neneng was breast-feeding her son, Fajar, when the fire started.
Neneng's husband Iding, 35, worked as a becak (pedicab) driver.
"The fire suddenly appeared in huge flames. We tried to extinguish it," Agus said.
He added he could hear Neneng crying for help.
Her charred body was found less than half an hour later, with that of her son some 3 meters away. - JP
