Candidate accused of vote buying

JAMBI: Meranging Police are investigating alleged vote buying in Jambi involving United Development Party legislative candidate Subhan.

Detective Chief Ad. Comr. Ujang Kusuma Winata said six local residents had testified that they received Rp 50,000 each (US$4.5) from Subhan on the eve of the election day in exchange for voting for the candidate.

Ujang said the police seized six Rp 50.000 bank notes from the witnesses as evidence.

"The police and the prosecutor's office have agreed to bring the candidate to justice for alleged election fraud," Ujang said. - JP
