JAKARTA: An Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) legislator has denied involvement in a bribery scandal, in which dismissed legislator Abdul Hadi Djamal, from the National Mandatate Party (PAN), is a suspect.
Emir Moeis, head of the House of Representatives' budgetary committee, claimed Tuesday, he never attended a meeting between government officials and committee members at Jakarta's Four Seasons Hotel in February, which was linked to the scandal.
Abdul has testified the meeting was designed to increase budgets for government agencies, including the Transportation Ministry.
"I did not attend the meeting and was not invited to attend it," Emir said, upon his arrival at the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), Tuesday morning.
Abdul said another legislator, Jhonny Allen Marbun from the Democratic Party, had received a bribe of Rp 1 billion (U$88,000) for a similar reason. - JP
