Gusti Kanjeng Ratu (GKR) Hemas, the wife of Sultan Hamengkubuwono X threw a party on Saturday to celebrate her success in securing a parliamentary seat, Antara state news agency reported.

At the party, attended by hundreds of supporters and her success teams, Kemas presented tokens of appreciation to the success teams for Yogyakarta, Sleman, Bantul, Gunungkidul and Kulonprogo districts. Art performances lustered up the occasion.

The organizing committee chairman, Ariswanto, said the result of vote counting by the success teams so far showed that GKR Hemas led across the city and districts with the number of votes for her reaching 53.76 percent.

"The number was higher than that in 2004 when she could only garner less than 50 percent of votes," he said.

On the occasion GKR Hemas said the party served as her appreciation to the people of Yogyakarta and the success teams that had supported her in the legislative elections on April 9 so that she could collect a significant number of votes.

She said she could collect more votes this year than in the last elections in 2004 despite tighter competition.

She said the significant number of votes she won reflected the people's confidence in her and the condition also reflected the people's increasing awareness of the role of function of the Regional Representative Council (DPD).

"The gain also proved that some quarters' prediction that she would only be able to collect less than 30 percent of votes was false. It was all because of the people's confidence in her and the hard work of the success teams," she said.

In the general elections on April 9 the Indonesian people selected members of national House of Representatives, regional and district-level legislative assemblies and the Regional Representative Council (DPD).
