SMS: Repeating the election?

A- A A+

Your comments on complaints by leaders from political parties about the poor implementation of the April 9 elections and possible repetition of the polls.

Maybe they are right, during the new order they already knew the result before the vote. Is this not the best election we have had so far?

It's not only the worst election, it is illegitimate. The flaws and irregularities are there, right before our very eyes! It's obvious and there's no room for denial. The ruling parties have secured the crown by any means possible. What a sad fact!

The legislative elections should not be repeated, particularly due to government's budget constraints and limited time schedule.

The most important thing to do is to correct data on the eligible voter lists nationwide, by involving government institutions, the General Elections Commission (KPU), and all political parties.

In addition the KPU needs to improve logistic preparation and their information technology system, allowing them to provide data quickly and accurately.

This is a product of the poor work of the government, and the weakness of the President.

The President should have made more appropriate preparations for the elections. This is serious work. General elections are not a child play, they must be done professionally.

The election is no use if the results are not valid. It's pity if people don't trust the result due to the poor management. A lot of money has been spent.

The president must take responsibility for this outcome. I think he must take this seriously.

Yes, I agree. It was the worst election ever in Indonesia. The dispute shows many of the President's weaknesses.

It has shown the President did nothing to help solve problems, including the many natural disasters that occurred outside Java.

SBY should have checked election preparations long before the event. There is no excuse. He has been in office for five years, what has he done during this time?

As president he is responsible for ensuring elections are smooth and successful. SBY should not only consider the possibility of his victory.

Megawati did better. Even though she only had three and a half years in office, she managed the 2004 election very well. The 2004 election was more complicated than all previous elections, in which people chose candidates directly instead of selecting a party. Even though she lost the election, people admired her as a genuine leader.

The 2009 election should have been better than the 2004 because it was only a slight repetition of the later with small alterations.

The sad news is now that the President has no solutions. Who should be given the task to solve the problem other than the President?

Perhaps this can be put in the Indonesian Record Museum as *the worst' election ever conducted by the Indonesian government in the last 10 years.

This expresses the typology of a third world nation with a poor capability to run democracy.

Elections are a means of democracy. When a nation fails to operate its means, the democracy fails to work. I reckon many times the Indonesian President fails to handle a lot of problems the country faces, such as Lapindo's mud disaster.
