The government should be able to reserve 3.8 million tons of rice through its state logistics firm Bulog this year.
President Bambang Susilo Yudhoyono said Tuesday that Bulog had so far managed to collect 1.4 million tons of rice.
"We expect our rice stocks will reach 1.97 million tons within six months," he told reporters at the State Palace after a meeting with other senior government officials on staple food and price indices.
"If this trend continues, based on our prognosis, our rice stocks will reach 3.8 million tons this year," he said.
