ANDARLAMPUNG: The government plans to raise the salaries of civil servants and Indonesian Military and National Police personnel next year.

"The government will increase in 2010 the salary in stages and equally, as part of our efforts to improve the welfare of civil servants and servicemen," National Development Planning Minister Paskah Suzetta said Monday.

He added the three groups of profession were singled out because of the role they played in providing public services.

The salary increase is among the government's programs that have been postponed due to the global financial crisis.
