ndonesia is hoping for an all-Indonesian final in the men's division after two of its teams progressed to the semifinals of the pinnacle series of the Asia Pacific Beach Volleyball Championship, in Parai Beach, Bangka Island, on Monday.
The tournament will hold its semis and finals on Tuesday.
Suratno and Dian Putra, the country's second-tier team, romped past India's Pitchai Sivabalan and Ammayappan Vikram 21-16, 21-16 in Monday's quarterfinals.
The pair will next face the winner between Thailand's Sittichai Sangkhacot/Sataporn Sawang Rueang and Iranian second-stringers Raoufi Rahman/Assari Narini Reza.
Indonesian first-stringers Koko Prasetyo Darkuncoro and Andy Ardiansyah defeated compatriots Agung Santoso and Naci Subagja, the third-stringers, 21-16, 21-11. They will battle Tuesday against Iran's top team of Parvis Farrokhi and Agha Mohamad Salagh.
"I am optimistic the younger team will meet their seniors in the final," assistant coach Bambang Eko Suhartawan told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Commenting on the chance of setting up an all-Indonesian final, Koko said he was looking forward to it.
"Definitely I am looking forward to meeting my fellow countrymen in the final."
In the women's division, Indonesia is banking on Devota Rahawarin and Ayu Cahyaningsiam, the first-stringers, to make it into the finals.
Devota/Ayu defeated compatriots Riris Irwati and Eva Sri Susilowati earlier in Monday's quarterfinals, 17-21, 21-15, 15-4.
They will next meet New Zealand's Hayley Griffiths and Micah Lindsay Brown in the semifinals Tuesday.
"I've watched the match between Devota and Ayu and the NZ team in Sidoarjo, East Java. Both teams are equally skilled."
The fourth series of the Asia Pacific Beach Volleyball Championship is being held at Parai Beach, Sungailiat, Bangka, Indonesia, after the previous three series were all held in Thailand.
