The Constitutional Court will suspend judicial reviews pending trials on general election related matters.
The Court Deputy Judge Chief Abdul Mukhtie Fadjar said Wednesday that the court was scheduled to process election related cases between May 12 and June 12.
“We expect to receive the cases on May 12 and start processing them six days later,” he told journalists.
He said the court had
prioritised reviewing election related cases due to the limited time stipulated by law.
“We only have one month to process all the cases, otherwise we will violate the law for solving cases beyond a one month period. As a consequence, we must delay judicial review sessions as they are not bound by a time limit,” he said.
He said that some election related matters included disputes over voters' lists and money politics.
Thus far, he added, the court has already examined 15 new judicial review cases and had yet to process some controversial reviews, including one on porn law and another on cigarette advertising. (ewd)
