The education budget will be maintained above 20 percent next year, totaling Rp 195.64 trillion (US$18.2 billion), or 20.6 percent of the state budget, Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati said Wednesday.
"In line with the (1945) Constitution, the education budget will still be more than 20 percent," she told a forum at the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).
The education budget reached 20 percent of the state budget for the first time this year.
Mulyani said ministries and regions receiving the education budget should improve the "quality of spending".
"As the Constitution stipulates the budget must be (more than) 20 percent, they may take this money for granted. This should be avoided," she said.
