Letters: Stop the cruelty to the Bali dogs

I am a regular Australian visitor to Bali. I love Bali and I love the people. I am very disappointed that the killing of Bali dogs with poison continues unabated. This is horrendously cruel and heartbreaking for anyone to see.

Not only killing stray dogs but also much loved pets, in such a nasty way, is very sad. This terrible act has been made public in Australia and Australia is horrified.

Hiding these activities from public view will not hide the fact that the violence still occurs. The torture of any living creature is inhumane. Cruelty involved with poisoning is not acceptable and the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines recommend a trap-neuter-release scheme combined with rabies vaccination.

Please stop the cruelty to the Bali dogs.

Please stop killing cows, sheep, kangaroos... yes even crocodiles in Australia. That is also cruel, regardless whether it is with poison, bullets, snares, or automated slaughterhouses.

It is true, here in my village like many villages in Bali we eat dog liver sometimes as a medicine, so it is dangerous for us if people poison dogs.
