Jusuf Kalla’s decision to abandon a coalition with Democratic Party does not represent the final stance of Golkar Party, says a member of Golkar central executive board.

"It is a form of a temporary political statement from the DPP. Golkar's final stance will be decided in tomorrow's DPP meeting," said DPP deputy chairman Marzuki Darusman in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Golkar's chairman Jusuf Kalla held a meeting with several others DPP chairmen at Slipi, West Jakarta, on Wednesday morning and decided to part ways with Democratic Party.

Many say that the break up is largely because of Democratic Party's persistence that Golkar should nominate several candidates, apart from Jusuf Kalla, to be considered as the running mate of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono in the upcoming presidential election.

Deemed as a response to the request, Kalla said Tuesday night that he decided to run for president and that Golkar would form a new block.

Marzuki said that Kalla's statement might be his own personal opinion and did not represent the party.

"We fully respect Kalla's position as a chairman. But there are many opinions within our party that the chairman is not the same with Golkar," Marzuki said.

"On the other hand, Kalla might see himself as Golkar. Therefore, we will settle these differences in tomorrow's summit and officially declare our final stance," he added. (hdt)
