West Nusa Tenggara prosecutors wants KPK to take over corruption cases

West Nusa Tenggara High Prosecutors' Office said Wednesday it was expecting the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to take over three corruption case investigations, which have been slowed down due to a delay in the permit for questioning the suspects.
HM Amari, head of the office, told Antara state news agency that the office had had to halt investigations while waiting for permission from President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and the Home Ministry to question a governor, a mayor and two Legislative Council members, who have all been named suspects in the cases.
“We filed the request to the president and the ministry in mid-2008, but we haven't received any permit,” he said.
Amari, who would soon leave his post to serve as head of the West Java High Prosecutors' Office, said he was leaving for Jakarta on Wednesday to meet the KPK chairman.
He said he expected the cases would be taken over by the KPK, whom he believed would be better investigating the cases.
In 2008, Amari's office named former West Nusa Tenggara governor Lalu Serinata, Bima Mayor Nur Latif, and conciliators Rahmat Hidayat and Abdul Kahfi as suspects in three separate corruption cases involving a total of more than Rp 18 billion (US$1.6 million) in state funds. (dre)
