NGOs report alleged KPU graft

A group of anti-graft organizations, the Independent Monitoring Organization (IMO), has lodged a report of an alleged corruption in logistics procurement at the General Election Commission (KPU) with the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

"We have met with Pak Haryono (KPK deputy chairman for prevention) and reported about five items of corruption indications in KPU logistic procurement," Arif Nur Alam from Indonesian Forum for Budget Transperancy (FITRA) told reporters here on Thursday.

He said they found corruption indications in five activities during the legislative elections; procurement and distribution of ballot papers, ballot box procurement, national calculations, upgrading process of eligible voters lists and familiarization of the 2009 legislative elections.

Fahmi Badoh from the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said they evaluated KPU's budget planning and its implementation and there were various inefficiencies that cost the state Rp 284.28 billion in loses.

They urged the KPK to investigate the allegations soon.
