The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) is set to announce its candidate for vice president, who will accompany Megawati Soekarnoputri in her bid for the presidency soon, a party executive says.
"The party has made up its mind and will be ready to declare the name in the near future," a member of the PDI-P's presidential election winning team Effendy Simbolon told The Jakarta Post on Monday.
Effendi, however, refused to name the candidate or say exactly when the party will make the announcement.
Golkar politician Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono and head of the advisory board of the Greater Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) Prabowo Subianto have been reported as likely candidates.
Prabowo and Peoples’ Conscience Party (Hanura) chairman Wiranto attended the PDI-P's national meeting last Saturday.
