The Attorney General's Office (AGO) said Tuesday that the trial of an alleged online graft case involving top ministerial officials and billions of rupiah would start on Wednesday.

Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes Marwan Effendy said Tuesday that one of the suspects of the case, former director general of legal administration at the Justice and Human Rights Ministry Syamsuddin Manan Sinaga, would stand trial on Wednesday.

Marwan said that the alleged corruption has caused Rp 420 billion (US$39 million) in losses to the state.

The AGO said earlier that it had received Rp 66.9 million from Syamsuddin, who said he received the money from the website project.

The AGO has declared Syamsuddin's predecessor Romli Atmasasmita, and his successors Zulkarnaen Yunus, as well as president director of PT Sarana Rekatama Dinamika (SRD), Yohanes Waworuntu, and Ali Amran Zannah from the ministry cooperative tasked with the daily operations of the online system.

SRD was business partner to the Justice and Human Rights Ministry in a recently terminated online administration system at www.sisminbakum.com, which offered permit processing services for, among others, establishing and modifying bylaws for enterprises.

The company was implicated in the case following claims by the AGO that it had embezzled payment fees generated by the system. Prosecutors claim the money should have gone to state coffers as nontax revenue.

Under the contract, SRD received 90 percent of the system’s total revenue, amounting to about Rp 9 billion per month, while the rest went to ministry officials. (dre)
