The Jakarta city administration is assessing a recycling method to repair damaged roads as it offers lower costs.
Deputy Governor Prijanto said the new procedure, called central hot-plant recycling, could save the city's budget of repairing damaged roads by 25 percent compared to conventional methods.
The recycling method is recommended by PT Pembangunan Jaya, which is under the supervision of the Public Works Ministry, he said.
"In the recycling method, we will recycle and reuse the used asphalt from the damaged roads, while in the conventional system we usually just throw away the used materials," said Prijanto.
"The new method is also more environmentally-friendly and save fuel," he said.
The administration, however, will research the new method.
Damaged roads have become a big problem in the capital, causing further congestion, as well as fatalities and injuries.
