JAKARTA: The South Jakarta administration bulldozed three illegal shops violating permits in Kemang Thursday.

Some 50 personnel from South Jakarta Building Supervision Office (P2B) as well as South Jakarta Public Order officers tore down the two-storey buildings on Jl. Kemang Raya.

South Jakarta Building Supervision Office head Widiyo Dwiyono said Thursday the owner had violated its building permit. According to the P2B, they gave the owner a license to build a residential house not a shop.

"A long time ago, we sent a construction halt warrant (SP-4), but it was ignored," said Widiyo, as quoted by beritajakarta.com.

The owner of the building and a couple of men attempted to block the officials. One of them reportedly threw stones at the officials. The demolition triggered traffic jam along Jl. Kemang Raya.

Widiyo said there were around 200 illegal buildings in Kemang. - JP
