State oil and gas company PT Pertamina claims it has completed a kerosene-to-LPG conversion program in three provinces in western Java.
The provinces are West Java, Jakarta and Banten, Pertamina's deputy director for trading and marketing Hanung Budya told reporters Friday.
"Before the conversion program began in mid-2007, the three provinces consumed about 3.2 million kiloliters of kerosene a year. Now, we have absorbed all the kerosene in the areas," Hanung said.
The government launched the conversion program in 2006 in a bid to reduce state budget spending for subsidized kerosene.
Pertamina this year targeted to absorb as much as 5.37 million kiloliters of kerosene from all over the country. As of April, the company claims it has absorbed 3.74 million kiloliters of kerosene.
