Asia will remain a motor for the global economy despite the US-led global financial crisis taking its toll on the region, Indonesia's President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Monday.
"Asia has been the motor of global growth for many years. And it will remain so for many more years to come," he said while opening the 42nd annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank's (ADB) board of governors here in Bali.
"Asia will remain in positive territory and will be the world's fastest-growing region in 2009 and 2010. We are tigers and dragons, resilient and bold," he added.
Indonesia is expected to post a growth of between 4 percent and 4.5 percent this year, the President said.
"The Indonesian government is committed to maintaining prudent economic policy settings and to encouraging global, cooperative action. We will continue to focus on measures aimed at stimulating economic activity and we encourage all members to do likewise," said Yudhoyono.
