JAKARTA: Small business owners who were victims of the Situ Gintung dam burst in Ciputat, Tangerang, Banten, have received grants to help get their businesses get up and running, a local NGO, Susila Dharma Indonesia, said in statement recently.
The beneficiaries, which included food and drink stall operators, a welder and a T-shirt printer, lost their livelihoods from the disaster, which occurred more than a month ago, it said in a statement. Many victims in the area were small entrepreneurs prior to the disaster.
Many individuals and organizations have helped the victims by handing out food and money. However, sustainable economic programs, such as the one provided by Susila Dharma are rare. The economic program, however, is currently short on funds, thus can only reach nine beneficiaries.
The NGO is still accepting contributions, which can be sent to its office at Griya Lestari, 2nd floor, Jl. RS Fatmawati 52, Jakarta, phone number: 021-7669663. - JP
