BANDUNG: Classes for Al Azhar elementary school's 123 students came to a halt as the Bandung People's Education Foundation (LPMB) locked the school's gates without warning.
Rina from the LPMB, said the school was closed until the Jakarta Al Azhar extends the operation permit for LPMB to run the school.
The closure of the school enraged dozens of parents who fear it will affect six-graders who are scheduled to participate in national exams next week.
Qadhar Faisal, a lawyer and a parent of one of the students, said the cooperation between LPMB and the Jakarta Al Azhar foundation expired two years ago.
He said the student parents' union then set up a new foundation, Al Muslih, and asked a permit for Al-Azhar Foundation to run the school. "Al-Muslih was given permission to run the school in March this year," he said. - JP
