The government asserted that the implementation of the Coral Triangle Initiative (CTI) would not "disturb" the sovereignty or territorial integrity of signatory countries.
"We have agreed that the CTI should respect sovereignty rights and the territorial integrity of the six countries with regard to their marine resources," an official at the CTI regional office Darmawan told The Jakarta Post Tuesday.
He said it would respect the law and the applicable regulations of each country.
Heads of States of Coral Triangle countries - Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste will officially launch the CTI on coral reefs, coastal and food security in a summit in Manado, North Sulawesi on May 15.
Prime Minister of Malaysia Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak, Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Michael Somore, Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Derek Sikua and President of Timor Leste Jose Ramos Horta have confirmed their attendance at the summit, said Darmawan.
He said the non-legally binding CTI would aim to conserve and sustainably manage coastal and marine areas within the triangle region.
