The price of government "Minyakita" brand subsidized cooking
oil, which would be provided by 10 cooking oil firms for low-income earners,
has been set at Rp 7,000 per liter, a ministry official said Thursday.
The government has no allocation to subsidize cooking oil this year, but is
working with cooking oil firms to provide affordable and clean cooking oil, said
Bayu Krisnamurthi, in charge of agriculture and maritime affairs under the coordinating
minister for the economy.
"The price will be determined on the 5th day of each month, and will
remain valid from the 10th of that month to the 9th of the next month," Bayu
said. The subsidy will be part of the corporate social responsibility program.
Bayu also said the government had set the price of commercial Minyakita at Rp
9,000 per liter, similar to the price of other commercial cooking oils. This
product will be sold at retail levels.
The government will distribute subsidized Minyakita mainly to Jakarta,
West Java, Central Java, East Java, North Sulawesi, North Sumatra, South Sumatra, Banten and Riau.
The 10 companies involved in Minyakita production are Wilmar International,
Musim Mas Group, Permata Hijau Group, Asian Agri Group, Smart, Berkas Sumber
Terang, Salim Ivomas Pratama, Astra Agro Lestari, Darmex and Kurnia Tunggal.
