Man dies after being shot by Jayapura police

JAKARTA: A Jayapura resident shot by local police during an arrest attempt died in Sentani hospital on Wednesday morning.
Jayapura Police chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Mathius Fakhiri told Antara news agency that the incident occurred when local police attempted to arrest local resident Salmon Ohee, who was drunk and blocking a main road.
Agus Ohee, a resident of Harapan village in Jayapura, interfered with the arrest attempt and attacked one of the officers with a bayonet. He was then shot in the leg by one of the officers.
Following the incident, local residents continued blocking the road, which provides the sole access to Sentani Airport, with stones and logs.
Hundreds of passengers missed their flights due to the blockade. -JP
