The World Boxing Association (WBA) will confer the Super Champion title to featherweight boxing champion Chris John at the Indonesian Consulate General in Los Angeles before his rematch with Rocky Juarez.

“I don’t know the exact date [of the ceremony] yet but it will be before the rematch against Juarez,” Toni Priatna, assistant manager of Harry’s Gym in Australia, where Chris John trains, said Sunday as quoted by Antara state news agency.

A rematch with Juarez is slated for June 27. Chris’s last match against Juaerez in Houston, Texas, on Feb. 28, 2009, ended in a draw, allowing Chris to retain his world title.

The WBA initially planned to honor Chris with the Super Champion title at the WBA’s meeting in Cartegena, Colombia, which was held from April 29 to May 2, where he had been invited as the guest of honor. However, the plan was cancelled and rescheduled.

The Super Champion title will be conferred on Chris for his success in retaining his title 10 consecutive times. His victory over Hirayuki Enoki of Japan in Oct. 24, 2008, secured him the title.

With the Super Champion title, Chris will not have to make a mandatory title defense for the next two-and-a-half years, thus giving him freedom to choose his opponents.
