The Constitutional Court said Monday that it would start hearing election-related lawsuits filed by political parties next Monday.

"We will commence hearing the complaints on May 18 and it will take a maximum of 30 days to process all suits," the court's secretary-general, Janedjri M. Gaffar, told a press conference on Monday.

Politicians from seven political parties and one Regional Council (DPD) candidate have filed lawsuits to the court.

The seven parties are the Indonesian Democratic Affection Party (PKDI), the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the Golkar Party, the Indonesian Nationalist Independence Fortress Party (PNBKI), the United Development Party (PPP), the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) and the Aceh United Party (PBA). The DPD candidate who filed the lawsuit is Kamaruddin.

"To date, only the PKDI and Kamaruddin have met all necessary requirements. While the other plaintiffs are still obliged to supply necessary documents," Gaffar said.

Most of the plaintiffs, he said, had yet to provide complete official permissions from their parties' leaders for filing their lawsuits.
