The national flagship carrier, Garuda Indonesia, is adding more flights to Manado, North Sulawesi, as demand for seats soars during the World Ocean Conference.
“An additional Boeing 737-800 aircraft flew to Manado from the Soekarno-Hatta Airport today aside from the two regular daily flights,” Garuda Indonesia Senior Manager Muller Simanjuntak said Monday as reported by Antara state news agency.
“Initially, we only planned to add two flights on Sunday. But the demand was high, so [today] we add another one,” he said, adding that the airline would provide its Boeing 737-800 and 737-400 for the WOC, which runs from May 11-15.
All flights to Manado are fully booked during the conference period. The last day of the conference will see five additional flights to the North Sulawesi capital.
Garuda also received a special order from WOC delegates to rent its aircraft to fly directly from Singapore to Manado on Sunday and on the last day of the conference, on Friday.(
