BOGOR: Bogor Tengah Police confiscated 21 of 30 luxury cars stolen by a man identified as Donni Pramono Sidi, a police official said Monday.
The 38-year-old, a Villa Indah Pajajaran resident, rented the cars on the pretext of chartering them between Bogor and Jakarta, First Insp. Aris Wibowo said.
"The suspect rented the cars for fees ranging from Rp 4 million to Rp 5 million per month, and then sold them to other parties for Rp 20-30 million, and used the money to pay his off debts," Aris said.
The case was discovered after police received a report last month from one of the renters, Yosep Saepudin, who lost three of his cars after they were rented by the suspect.
Yayuk, another car rental owner, said the suspect had rented 13 cars from him in January and February through his wife Ine.
"He paid the rental fees for the first two months, but failed to pay for the third month," said Yayuk.
Over five months, the suspect managed to steal 30 cars and sell them in Greater Jakarta, Swrakarta and Central Java. - JP
