JAKARTA: A House of Representatives member claims the lack of professionalism shown by state officials when handling documents has dashing any chance for a proper settlement of the loan scandal involving Bank Indonesia Liquidity Support (BLBI) funds.

"We will never be able to solve the scandal because the Attorney General's Office (AGO) and the Finance Ministry only possess copies of the documents, not the originals, which lack validity under law," legislator Dradjat Wibowo said following a hearing between the House Commission XI on economy and finance and the AGO in Jakarta.

At the forum, Attorney General Hendarman Supandji said his office was unaware of the whereabouts of the original documents.

He denied any responsibility for the scandal, saying the AGO had submitted all the necessary paperwork related to the incident to the Finance Ministry.

"I see this as a lesson we must learn the hard way. Hundreds of trillions of rupiah go up in smoke simply due to missing documents," Dradjad said. - JP
