Freed American journalist leaves Iran

The lawyer for Roxana Saberi says the American journalist accused of spying on Iran has left the country after being released from jail.

Saberi's lawyer, Abdolsamad Khorramshahi, says the 32-year-old dual Iranian-American citizen left Iran for Europe early Friday, but he did not say hich country. He said she left around 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. local time (2230-2330 GMT).

On Thursday, the family said they were planning to leave Iran soon.

Saberi was convicted of spying after a brief, closed-door trial and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Saberi spent four months in prison. Shewas freed Monday and reunited with her parents after an appeals court reduced her sentence to a two-year suspended sentence.
