The Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and the Greater
Indonesian Movement Party (Gerindra) are holding final coalition
discussions in Batu Tulis Palace in Bogor on Friday, state news agency
Antara has reported.
Gerindra official Untung Rahardjo said Friday that both parties were undergoing a very tough discussion and had yet to reach any agreement as of Friday afternoon.
He said that both parties had yet to officially agree on who would run as president and who would run as vice-president.
“The PDI-P keep on naming its chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri as the presidential candidate, while the Gerindra wants its chief Prabowo Subianto to be the president,” he said.
Megawati and Prabowo are set to conclude the meeting and decide on the coalition format this weekend. (ewd)
