Indonesia is targeted to have 20 million hectares of areas for marine conservation by 2020, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said Friday during the Coral Triangle Initiatives (CTI) summit in Manado, North Sulawesi.
“Today I announce a new target for Indonesia to have 20 million hectares of protected sea areas across the country by 2020."
Indonesia already has 13.4 million hectares of marine conservation areas.
Yudhoyono also said in the next three years the country would make efforts to double the budget allocation to supportt the CTI Regional Plan Action.
He said Indonesia was ready to allocate US$ 5 million for the CTI program. (dre)
