Presidential and vice presidential hopefuls recently registered with the General Elections Commission (KPU) have arrived Sunday morning at the Gatot Subroto Army Hospital (RSPAD) to undergo health screening as stipulated by the general election law.

Golkar Party candidate Jusuf Kalla and running mate Wiranto from the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) as well as Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarnoputri and partner Prabowo Subianto of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) were reported by Antara news wire to have arrived early to undergo the 10-hour health screening.

"The health examination would take around 10 hours and be done by a team of specialists including internists, heart specialists, urologists, neurologists, eye, ear, nose and neck specialists.  They will also be psychologically examined while personality tests will be done using the Minnesota Multiphasix Personality Inventory," KPU official I Gusti Putu Arthahe said.

He added that Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of the Democratic Party, and his running mate, Boediono, would undergo screening on Monday.

The general election law stipulates that all presidential and vice presidential candidates are required to undergo health examinations prior to running for the top executive seats in the July race.

The results will be reviewed by the RSPAD medical team and are considered final. (amr)
