Thousands declare support for Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto

Thousands of people from around Sulawesi and other islands in Eastern Indonesia gathered in Makassar on Sunday to show their support for Jusuf Kalla and his running mate Wiranto in the upcoming presidential election.

In their declaration, the people's coalition for triumph of JK-Win (Jusuf Kalla-Wiranto) vowed to volunteer to ensure the pair win the July election.

Ilham Arief Siradjuddin from the Golkar Party and Dewi Yasin Limpo from the People's Conscience Party (Hanura) attended the declaration, held at the Celebes Convention Center in Makassar.

In their oration, Ilham and Dewi said they believe Jusuf Kalla and Wiranto will bring improvements to the country within the next five years.

“[Jusuf Kalla] had been in the background of the many successes achieved during Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono-Jusuf Kalla's tenure. Some strategic policies taken by the government, including those relating to the societies, were Jusuf Kalla's ideas. That is why JK-Win must be elected as president and vice president,” they said.

Previously, dozens of other groups had sporadically declared themselves supporters of the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

They acknowledged the pair as representing the ethnic plurality of the country and as having the capability, credibility and high loyalty to improve people's prosperity.
