JAKARTA: The dungeon of Jakarta History Museum, known as Fatahillah Museum, which also used to be the former city prison during the Dutch colonial era, will be open to the public Tuesday.

The museum, located in Kota, West Jakarta, was the former City Hall during the Dutch colonial era. Prisoners at that time were forced to live in a cramped space where they ate and defecated in the same place.

Official at the museum said workers had finished painting the dungeon.

"We need to drain the ankle-high water and fix the electricity," Abdullah said, as quoted by detik.com.

The dungeons are cells of around 9 square meters with a low, arched ceiling that once held prisoners before execution or trial. -JP
