JAKARTA: Politics and all that goes with it is just another headache for soap opera actress turned singer Ussy Sulistiawaty, so she’s going to steer clear of it all and abstain from voting in the upcoming presidential election.

The public, through the media, is keeping an eye on the day-to-day political dynamics among future pairs of candidates as they gear up to contest the election, scheduled for early July.

“I would choose none of the three pairs because I am confused about how to weigh up the choices.

All of them promise change but none of us know if it will actually happen,” Ussy said, as quoted by entertainment website detikhot.com.

“I’m so confused, I’d rather abstain.”

The mother of one also commented on the emotional reactions from political parties and candidates who failed to win power in April’s legislative election. She said she believes they show a lack of sportsmanship and could not take losing gracefully.

“Just watching [how they reacted] annoys me,” she said.

Ussy, who recently turned to singing after years of starring in soap operas, said hoped that politicians could be wiser and instead of only fighting for seats would focus on improving the nation. — JP
