Special prices for journalists, Daniel says

JAKARTA: It’s no longer a secret that apart from his career as a presenter, Daniel Mananta is also a businessman in the fashion industry. But not many people know what he has planned as his business strategy.

Playing smart to attract more customers to buy his apparel, Daniel seems to know he’ll get the much-needed promotions if he embraces journalists. Therefore, the MTV video jockey offers special prices for journalists interested in buying his latest T-shirt collection.

“We’ll give out a special discount of 30 percent for journalists who can show their press cards when buying this collection,” Daniel said at the recent 250th Guinness Celebration event.

The latest collection, as Daniel refers to it, features his new T-shirt designs under the theme “Dream My Love Indonesia”.

The collection’s designs center on Indonesian heroes and traditional wayang (Javanese shadow puppet) characters.

“I picked this concept because of my concern for the younger generation, who seem to ignore our local culture like wayang,” says the 27-year-old host of Indonesian Idol.

“Not so many people realize how cool wayang is. Just look at how tourists love to have T-shirts with wayang pictures on them,” he adds.

And putting on pictures of wayang isn’t all that Daniel is doing. He also goes into detail with the description of the selected wayang characters.

“So when they look at the picture of Gareng, for example, they also know who that character is. This will make them more curious.” — JP
