The Batam, Rempang and Galang (Balerang) Police in Riau province will tighten up security during a blackout over the city from Saturday to Monday.
“We will place officers in locations that are prone to crime,” Barelang Police Chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Leonidas Braksan said Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
He added that security would be doubled in vital spots in order to ensure the safety of residents.
When the lights go off, he said, the number of crimes is likely to increase. Therefore, the police will also double the security in residential areas and at the state electricity company PT PLN offices.
“Some people might start a protest and cause trouble,” he said.
PT PLN Batam will cut the electricity supply for 12 hours for three consecutive days starting on Saturday due to the lack of a supply of gas from the state gas company PT PGN. (adh)
