A court ruling has given Malaysia's ruling coalition control over a northern state that it had wrested from the opposition through defections.
The Appeals Court has struck down a previous ruling by the High Court, which had declared the National Front coalition's takeover of Perak state in January as unconstitutional.
But Justice Ahmad Maarop said in the judgment Friday "it is clear" that opposition chief minister Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin of Perak had "ceased to command" the majority of the state parliament after the defections of his party colleagues.
The struggle for control of Perak sparked a bitter feud between the opposition led by Anwar Ibrahim and Prime Minister Najib Razak.
