The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) declared former Natuna Regent Hamid Rizal a suspect in an embezzlement case worth Rp 72 billion (US$7.03 million), funds from oil and gas profit sharing in the regency between 2003-2004.

“After an intensive investigation into Natuna’s regional budget related to oil and gas profit sharing in the regency, we are now declaring former regent HR a suspect in the budget’s embezzlement valued at Rp 72 billion in 2003-2004,” KPK spokesman Johan Budi told reporters here on Friday.

He said Hamid was charged with violating the 1999 Anti-Corruption Law article 2(1) about enriching oneself, other people or a corporation and article 3 concerning abuse of power.
